    - BACKGROUND,  MISSION,  MOTIVATION -

Our facilitators have considerable experience working with young people from diverse backgrounds and age groups.  From primary to high school students in metro and remote locations as well as First Nations people and refugees and much more.

Our diverse approach has lead us to create & number of youth crime diversion and prevention programs, plus music programs in youth detention centres. This experience has enabled our team to confidently work with young people regardless of their cultural background or complex circumstances.

Throughout our professional careers, we have always maintained our commitment to working with young people, using music and arts as a tool to connect. The majority of our team are now parents which has further added to our knowledge and understanding. We are honoured and privileged to be able share our craft and passion with our youth.

AUSTRALIAN CURRICULUM

Our programs address AC Achievement Standards and Content Descriptors from Foundation to Year 10. We’ve referenced relevant curriculum content using the Australian Curriculum Reference Table.

WHAT STUDENTS WILL EXPERIENCE

The main components of our programs focus on music and body movement. We engage students through drumming, body percussion, vocals, and dance which enables them to experience what it’s like to operate as one unit. The unifying activities create a greater connection between youth whilst incorporating many active soft skills that they can take away afterwards. There is a growing body of evidence which illustrates the multitude of positive impacts for individual and group development.

A CULTURAL EXPERIENCE

Our facilitators have an in-depth knowledge of the cultures where our instruments and music originate. Being of their heritage, or spending many years studying with master drummers and travelling to Africa, Brazil and Latin America. Participants will receive a respectful dissemination of the history and cultural traditions, which helps increases appreciation and awareness of diversity.

ONE-OFF WORKSHOPS

These taster-workshops are for schools to preview the content and benefits of the program before booking. More details upon request.

PROGRAMS

4 WEEK PROGRAM

Our 4-WEEK program is an introduction to music and dance. This program is a great, fun way to start or finish a term where students will learn:

●    the basics of how to play a hand drum (technique).

●    fun rhythmic games.

●    how to start and stop the rhythm.

●    three separate rhythmic patterns.

●    how all three patterns come together to make one rhythm.

FULL-TERM PROGRAM

In our FULL-TERM program, we dive deeper into the rhythms. Research shows that drumming stimulates the development of neurological pathways that are beneficial across all aspects of a young person’s life. Benefits span from helping in academics to social and emotional wellbeing, and many other areas including:

●    We continue to develop the 5 core skills in our 4-WEEK program

●    Tempo and volume. In age-appropriate language, we explain how the human heart beats faster and slower depending on how we feel. We bring awareness to our breath as a means of regulation.

●    Small groups of students take turns at playing the lead role, whilst others follow. We explain how this mirrors life - at times it’s important to concentrate and listen, and then there are times when we can trust ourselves to take the lead. This helps to develop both self-confidence and teamwork.

●    As a group we create a performance piece that can be presented at the school, where students can perform for their peers. Parents are encouraged to come and celebrate in their child’s achievements.
