Following rhythm charts; reading and writing rhythm notation; composing and arranging rhythms.

 

P = PERFORMANCE SKILLS

Developing playing technique; playing rhythm patterns and songs; building ensemble skills; rehearsing and performing for an audience.

 

R = RESPONSE & ANALYSIS

Identifying the stylistic features of African music; analysing and evaluating musical elements: rhythm, pitch, structure, dynamics, timbre and texture.

The drum is a tool through which students can develop confidence, resilience and adaptability. Drumming also builds great social awareness through collaborative learning opportunities that encourage effective communication and the development of leadership skills.

 

PS = PERSONAL & SOCIAL CAPABILITIES

The African drumming experience builds respect for cultural diversity. Students will develop an understanding of how music sustains and communicates cultural knowledge, through learning about African culture and musical traditions.
