SELECTED BIO - RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
I am a Uruguayan born Australian professional musician. My parents were the directors of ‘Grupo Folclórico Uruguayo’ and Afro-Uruguayan Candombe group ‘Lonjas del Uruguay’. I first performed on stage, dancing when I was 2 years old, appearing in the Sydney Morning Herald cover story for the George St Cultural Festival 1977.
I began my percussion training at the age of 6, by the age of 12 I was choreographing and arranging the Malambo Drum Ensembles for the Folkloric group mentioned above. My ability was recognised and nurtured, I was selected over consecutive years to perform at the Sydney Opera House for the annual National Folkloric Festival under the guidance of Guillermo Keys-Arenas – Principal Choreographer, for the Sydney Ballet.
By the time I was 18 years old, I was already recognised as a professional musician / percussionist and performer, with the ability to arrange and direct musical ensembles and work with dancers to create drum and dance works, within a cultural and folkloric context. The contemporary music world in Sydney also noticed, I was recruited by multiple original and cover bands. After an intensive year playing 5nights per week with Sydney’s tops musicians and DJ’s, I cemented my profile within the pro scene.
